Application

Chemical Properties

 

Reacts with bases. Reactions such as esterification and reduction can also occur. Dehydrated by heat to form succinic anhydride. Nucleophilic substitution reaction can occur, the hydroxyl group is replaced by halogen atoms, amine compounds, acyl groups, etc.

 

Pharmacological Effects

 

1. Antibacterial effect of succinic acid in 2mg/ml concentration of Staphylococcus aureus, Katharococcus, as well as typhoid fever, green pus, metamorphosis, dysentery bacillus has an inhibitory effect.
2. Central inhibitory effect of rats, mice, guinea pigs, rabbits, cats and dogs intraperitoneal injection of succinic acid can protect animals against hyperbaric oxygen, electroconvulsions and audiogenic convulsions. The anticonvulsant effect is related to the increase of GABA content in the brain. Hot plate method has analgesic effect, and pentobarbital has a synergistic effect, there are sedative and lower body temperature effect.
3. Anti-ulcer effect of rat pylorus ligation produces gastric ulcer, intraperitoneal injection or oral 50mg/kg, due to the inhibition of gastric juice secretion and dilation of the gastric muscle and was anti-ulcer effect.
4. Preparation

 

There are many industrial preparation methods, mainly the following ones:
1. Oxidation method, paraffin wax by deep oxidation to generate a mixture of carboxylic acids, and then after steam distillation and crystallization and other separation steps can be obtained succinic acid.

Toxicity Protection

 

Succinic acid is of low toxicity, with some irritation to the eyes, skin and mucous membranes, and no toxic effects on the whole body. Large oral doses can cause vomiting and diarrhea. The oral LD50 in rats is 8530 mg/kg. no occupational damage has been reported when used in industry. Be careful to wear protective equipment when handling or contacting succinic acid vapors to avoid coughing and skin irritation.

Environmental Hazards: Hazardous to the environment, may cause pollution to water and atmosphere.

Hazard of ignition and explosion: This product is flammable and irritating.

Hazardous Characteristics: Flammable when exposed to open flame and high heat. Powder and air can form explosive mixtures, when it reaches a certain concentration, it will explode when it meets sparks. Decomposed by high heat, releasing irritating fumes.
