* Chemical industry: Acetaldehyde is one of the important raw materials for many chemical and organic synthesis. It is widely used in the production of chemicals such as acetic acid, vinyl acetate, and cellulose acetate. These chemicals have important applications in plastics, textiles, coatings, inks, etc.1 In addition, Acetaldehyde can be used in the manufacture of polyacetal and synthetic rubber.
* Pharmaceutical industry: Acetaldehyde also has important applications in the pharmaceutical field. It can be reacted with Grignard and organolithium reagents to form alcohols, which are further used in the manufacture of hydrates of the pesticide DDT and the sleeping drug trichloroacetaldehyde.
* Food industry: Although acetaldehyde is harmful to humans, it is mainly used in the food industry for the manufacture of food additives and flavourings. However, it should be noted that Acetaldehyde is irritating and toxic and can be hazardous to human health, so special attention needs to be paid to safety measures when using and handling it.
* Other applications: Acetaldehyde is also used in the manufacture of dyes, fragrances and other fine chemicals. It is used as an important intermediate in organic synthesis, participating in a variety of chemical reactions to produce a variety of useful compounds.
* Ethylene oxidation: Crude acetaldehyde is synthesised by one-step direct oxidation of ethylene and oxygen over a catalyst containing palladium chloride, copper chloride, hydrochloric acid and water, and then distilled to a finished product. This method, also known as the Wacker method, was the first process in the world to be industrialised using a homogeneous coordination catalyst.
* Ethanol oxidation: Ethanol vapour is oxidised and dehydrogenated by air at 300-480°C using silver, copper or silver-copper alloy nets or pellets as catalysts to produce acetaldehyde. This method is widely used in industry.
* Acetylene hydration: Acetylene and water are hydrated directly under the action of mercury catalyst or non-mercury catalyst to obtain acetaldehyde. Due to the environmental pollution problems of mercury catalyst, this method has been gradually replaced by other methods.
* Ethanol dehydrogenation: Acetaldehyde is produced by dehydrogenating ethanol over a copper catalyst to which cobalt, chromium, zinc or other compounds are added. This method is also known as the Dewar method.

Uses of Isopropyl Alcohol
To clean surfaces, both alone and as a component of a general-purpose cleaner, or as a solvent. 99% isopropyl alcohol has the benefit of being non-corrosive to metals or plastics, so it can be used widely, on all surfaces, and won’t leave smears, even on glass or screens.
As an industrial cleaner because it does not leave a residue that may cause complications in manufacturing. This type of IPA is commonly used as an industrial/technical solvent and cleaner and as a raw material for derivatives. Since Industrial or Tech-Grade IPA is held to lower purity standards, it is not approved for medical, food, or drug use.
This IPA covers a wide range of applications, including drug manufacturing, medical wipes, as well as cosmetic use and personal care products (toiletries). Its purity is expected to be slightly higher than the industrial grade.
ACS IPA is held to a higher purity standard compared to USP grade. It’s common in applications including cosmetic and personal care products (toiletries) and rubbing alcohol.
