Application
1). 2 - Methylbutanol is an important raw material for the synthesis of drugs.
2). As an organic solvent, it is widely used in paints, inks, coatings and nitro spray paints to dissolve cellulose esters, cellulose ethers and oils.
3). It acts as a key intermediate in alkylation, oxidation and esterification reactions.
4). Acts as a stabilizer and paint additive to improve product properties; acts as a flotation agent in mineral flotation processes for the extraction of non-ferrous metals.
5). In the food industry, it is naturally found in fruits and fermented beverages, and can be used as a flavor enhancer.
Storage
1). It should be stored in a cool, ventilated and dry warehouse, away from fire, heat and strong oxidizers.
2). Storage temperature is generally recommended not to exceed 35℃, high purity reagents can be refrigerated (4℃) to extend the shelf life.
3). Avoid direct sunlight and humid environment to prevent moisture absorption or decomposition.
4). Use sealed metal or plastic containers to ensure no leakage.
5). When storing for a long period of time, the sealing of the container needs to be checked regularly to avoid air entry leading to oxidation.
Stability
1). Under normal conditions of storage and use, 2 - methylbutanol has good stability.
2). Its flash point is 39-45°C, and the explosion limit is 1.2-10.3% (V/V), which may cause combustion or explosion when exposed to open flame or high temperature.
3). In contact with strong oxidizing agent (e.g. potassium permanganate), it will undergo violent oxidation reaction and generate corresponding aldehyde or ketone.
