Application
1). Aroma Characteristics: Fresh, sweet floral (similar to lily of the valley, jasmine, lily of the valley) and fruity (similar to apple, strawberry) notes, with good aromatic persistence.
2). Daily use flavor: widely used in perfume, cologne, deodorant spray and other formulations, as the middle or base note to increase the floral and fruity rhyme.
3). Cosmetic fragrances: Commonly used in shampoo, shower gel, moisturizer, soap, detergent and other products to provide pleasant and stable aroma.
4). Household product flavor: used in air freshener, fabric softener, cleaner, etc..
5). Role: Mainly used as a fragrance fixative and modifier, which can give the fragrance a sense of fullness and naturalness.
6). Used as organic synthesis intermediates for the synthesis of specific chemicals (research or small-scale industrial applications).
7). May be used as high boiling point solvents or auxiliaries in specialized areas (e.g., special inks, coatings), but this is not its primary market.
Storage
1). CLOSED CONTAINERS: Must be stored in well-closed containers (e.g., original drums, containers with lined sealed lids) to prevent evaporation and absorption of moisture or impurities from the air.
2). AVOID LIGHT: Containers should be opaque or stored in a place protected from light (e.g., dark room, cabinet) to prevent possible decomposition or discoloration due to ultraviolet radiation.
3). COOL AND DRY: Store in a cool (temperatures usually recommended to be below 30°C or follow supplier specific recommendations), dry (low humidity) environment. High temperatures may accelerate the risk of volatilization, decomposition or polymerization; humid conditions may increase the risk of hydrolysis.
4). Good Ventilation: Storage areas should be well ventilated to prevent the build-up of vapors and reduce potential flammability and inhalation risks.
5). Keep away from ignition heat sources: Proximity to open flames, sparks, hot surfaces or other ignition sources is strictly prohibited. Smoking should be prohibited in storage areas.
6). Keep away from incompatible substances: Store separately from strong oxidizers, strong acids and strong bases to prevent violent reactions. The storage area should be equipped with appropriate fire prevention facilities (e.g., fire extinguishers).
Stability
1). Under recommended storage conditions (airtight, protected from light, cool and dry), benzyl dimethyl acetate generally exhibits good chemical stability.
2). Stability to Hydrolysis: As an ester, it is relatively stable under neutral conditions at room temperature. However, under high temperature, high humidity environment or strong acid/base conditions, hydrolysis reaction may occur and decompose into the corresponding alcohol (α,α-dimethylphenethyl alcohol) and acetic acid. Therefore, it is critical to avoid extreme pH environments and prolonged exposure to hot and humid conditions.
3). Risk of polymerization: compounds containing vinyl groups may have a tendency to polymerize under certain conditions (e.g. high temperature, presence of catalysts or long-term storage).
4). PHYSICAL STABILITY: Physical form (usually colorless to yellowish liquid) and volatility are controlled under good sealing conditions.
5). LONG TERM STORAGE RECOMMENDATIONS: Although stable for long periods of time under suitable conditions (1-2 years is usually recommended).
6). REGULAR INSPECTION: Regularly check for abnormalities in appearance (e.g. color change, turbidity) and odor.
7). Monitor acid value: For fragrance grade products, acid value is an important indicator of the degree of hydrolysis. If the acid value rises significantly, it indicates that hydrolysis is occurring and quality may be reduced.
