Application
1). Flavoring agent: caprylic acid has a special flavor, can be used as food spices for mixing some foods that need special flavor, such as dairy products, baked goods, etc., can give the product a unique flavor and aroma.
2). Preservative: Decanoic acid has certain inhibitory effect on some microorganisms, it can be used as a natural preservative added to food to prolong the shelf life of food, especially for yeast, mold and other good inhibitory effect.
3). Plasticizer raw materials: decanoic acid can be used for the production of plasticizers, added to plastics can increase the flexibility, plasticity and processing performance of plastics, widely used in the production of polyvinyl chloride and other plastic products.
4). Lubricant raw material: it is one of the important raw materials for the production of lubricant, the lubricant produced has good lubricating properties and stability, and can be used in metal processing, machinery manufacturing and other fields to reduce friction and wear.

Storage
1). Temperature: It should be stored in a cool environment, generally at a temperature not exceeding 25℃, to avoid high temperature leading to melting, volatilization or other chemical changes of decanoic acid.
2). Humidity: the relative humidity of the storage environment should be kept low, generally not more than 60%, to prevent decanoic acid from absorbing moisture in the air and affecting its purity and quality.
3). Ventilation: The storage place should be well ventilated to remove the vapors of decanoic acid that may be volatilized, to reduce the safety risk, and also to help keep the environment dry.
4). Sealing: Use well-sealed packaging containers, such as plastic drums, iron drums lined with plastic film, etc., to ensure that the decanoic acid is isolated from outside air and moisture to prevent oxidation and water absorption.
5). Material: the packaging material should be compatible with decanoic acid without chemical reaction. Generally speaking, plastic and some corrosion-resistant metal materials are more suitable, avoid using materials that may interact with decanoic acid to prevent corrosion and affect product quality.
Stability
1). Acidity and alkalinity: Decanoic acid is an organic acid with acidic properties, and when in contact with alkalis it will undergo a neutralization reaction to form the corresponding salt. Avoid contact with alkalis during storage and use.
2). Oxidizing reaction: When exposed to air for a long period of time or in contact with strong oxidizing agents, decanoic acid may undergo an oxidizing reaction, resulting in its deterioration. Therefore, coexistence with strong oxidizing agents should be avoided as much as possible, and storage should be well sealed to reduce contact with air.
3). Esterification reaction: Decanoic acid is easy to esterify with alcohols to form corresponding ester compounds. Therefore, during storage, avoid mixing and storing with alcohols to avoid unnecessary reactions.
4). Change of state: Decanoic acid is a white crystalline powder or lump at room temperature, and its melting point is about 31.5℃. When the temperature approaches or exceeds the melting point, caprylic acid will melt and become liquid, and then recrystallize when the temperature decreases. This change of state generally does not affect its chemical properties, but frequent temperature changes may cause it to agglomerate or affect its particle size distribution.
5). Hygroscopicity: Decanoic acid has a certain degree of hygroscopicity, and is prone to absorbing moisture in the air in a humid environment, thus affecting its purity and physical properties, such as leading to agglomerations, poor fluidity, and so on.
