Application
1). Acetylpropionic acid is an important raw material for the synthesis of resins, paints and inks. Its derivative bisphenolic acid is used to prepare water-soluble resins and is used in the paper industry to produce filter paper.
2). Its calcium salt (Calcium Fructarate) is used in the preparation of intravenous injections, as a nutrient to promote bone formation and to maintain neuromuscular excitability.
3). The amine salt of acetylpropionic acid chloride is used as a herbicide and defoliant. In addition, it can be used as a bacteriostatic agent for industrial circulating water to inhibit the growth of microorganisms.
4). It can be used in seasonings, beverages, canned foods and other foods for flavoring and preservation. Its content is also an important indicator for distinguishing brewed soy sauce from prepared soy sauce, and the content in pure brewed soy sauce is minimal.
5). As one of the 12 key bio-based platform compounds identified by the U.S. Department of Energy, Acetylpropionic Acid can be used in the manufacture of biodegradable plastics, replacing traditional petroleum-based plastics and reducing the environmental burden.
Storage
1). It should be stored in a cool, dry and well-ventilated warehouse, away from fire and heat sources, and the temperature of the warehouse should not exceed 37°C. Avoid direct sunlight, because Acetylpropionic Acid is sensitive to light, and may be decomposed by prolonged exposure.
2). Use sealed glass or plastic containers, avoid contact with metal materials to prevent acid corrosion.
3). Store separately from oxidizers, strong bases and other prohibited substances to prevent dangerous reactions. It should be loaded and unloaded lightly to avoid damage to the container.
Stability
Acetylpropionic acid is stable and not easy to decompose under normal temperature and pressure. However, under high temperature (e.g. heating to above 245°C for a long time) or strong acid and alkali conditions, it may lose water to form unsaturated γ-lactone. Its aqueous solution is more acidic than that of acetic acid, so the corrosiveness should be noted.
