Application
1). Synthesize nonionic/anionic surfactants such as sodium tetradecyl sulfate and tetradecyl polyoxyethylene ether, which are used in detergents, shampoos and industrial cleaning agents.
2). Used as emulsifiers in cosmetics (e.g., emulsions, creams) to enhance oil-water mixing stability.
3). Used as emollient in skin care products to provide silky texture; used in hair care products to improve combability.
4). As a thickener or viscosity regulator to enhance the texture of cream products.
5). Synthetic ester lubricants (e.g. myristate) for metal working or mechanical lubrication.
6). As auxiliary plasticizer for PVC and rubber, to improve material flexibility and processing performance.
7). Producing derivatives such as myristal, myristate, etc., used in the field of flavor, medicine (e.g., drug carrier) or pesticide.
8). Used as thermal energy storage material to regulate phase change temperature (melting point about 38-41°C), suitable for low temperature energy storage system.
9). Textile auxiliaries: as dyeing auxiliaries or antistatic agents to enhance fiber treatment.
10). Antifoam agent: Inhibits foam generation in food processing, fermentation or paper industry.
Storage
1). Use stainless steel, glass, or plastic containers resistant to organic solvents (e.g., HDPE) that are tightly sealed to minimize oxidation and moisture absorption.
2). Avoid using ordinary plastics (may be dissolved or permeated).
3). Solid storage needs to be controlled at 25-35°C (melting point about 38-41°C) to avoid quality changes due to repeated melting; liquid storage needs to be kept at a temperature above the melting point.
4). High temperatures (>50°C) may accelerate oxidation or decomposition.
5). Protection from light: store away from light (UV light may trigger slow oxidation).
6). Humidity: keep dry (relative humidity <60%), low hygroscopicity but still need to be protected from moisture.
7). Fire protection: keep away from ignition sources (flash point approx. 148°C, combustible solid/liquid), equipped with dry powder or carbon dioxide fire extinguishers.
8). SEPARATE STORAGE: Store separately from strong oxidizers (e.g. persulfates), strong acids/alkalis.
Stability
1). Oxidation sensitivity: Long-term exposure to air may slowly oxidize to generate myristaldehyde or myristic acid, nitrogen-filled protection or the addition of antioxidants (e.g. BHT, vitamin E) is recommended.
2). Acid and alkali sensitivity: Strong acidic conditions may trigger esterification, strong alkaline conditions may lead to saponification.
3). Decomposition temperature: decomposes at >250°C, producing carbon monoxide, alkane gases, etc.
4). Volatility: Boiling point about 289°C, almost non-volatile at room temperature, need to strengthen the airtightness when in high temperature liquid state.
5). Stable to light, but long-term UV irradiation may accelerate the oxidation, it is recommended to keep it away from light.
6). Stable for 4-5 years under unopened conditions, recommended to be used up within 2-3 years after opening, check regularly for changes in color (white crystals/liquid) and odor (e.g. yellowing or rancid smell).
