Application
1). As solvent: Isobutanol is miscible with water, ethanol, ether and many other organic solvents, it is an excellent solvent for paints, coatings, inks, glues and other products, which helps to dissolve resins, pigments and other components, and improves the coating performance and drying characteristics of the products. In the production of artificial leather, it can be used as a solvent to dissolve polymers, so that the coating is evenly applied to the substrate.
2). Used in organic synthesis: it is an important raw material for synthesizing many organic compounds such as isobutyraldehyde, isobutyric acid, isobutylamine and so on. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used to synthesize antibiotics, vitamins and other drug intermediates; in the spice industry, it can be used to synthesize fruity flavors, such as ethyl isobutyrate, etc., to add flavor to food, cosmetics and so on.
3). Production of plasticizers: React with phthalic anhydride and other plasticizers such as diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) can be produced, which can improve the flexibility, plasticity and cold resistance of plastics, and is widely used in the production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and other plastic products.
4). Used as fuel additive: It can be used as an additive for gasoline to increase the octane number of gasoline, improve the anti-detonation performance of gasoline, reduce the phenomenon of engine detonation, and at the same time, it can reduce the emission of hazardous substances in the automobile exhaust, which can help to improve the combustion efficiency of the fuel and environmental protection performance.
5). Applications in other fields: used as a cleaning agent in the printing industry, it can effectively remove ink and dirt on the printing equipment; in the electronic industry, it can be used to clean electronic components and circuit boards to ensure their surface cleanliness and improve the performance and stability of electronic equipment.
Storage
1). Packing requirement: Usually packed in galvanized iron drum or plastic drum, the capacity of each drum is 150kg or 200kg, or other packing specifications according to customers' requirements. Packing container should be well sealed to prevent the leakage of isobutanol.
2). Storage environment: It should be stored in a cool and ventilated warehouse, away from fire and heat source, and the temperature of the warehouse should not exceed 37℃. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent volatilization or danger of isobutanol due to high temperature.
3). Storage precautions: Store separately from oxidizers, acids, alkali metals, etc., and do not mix them. Equipped with corresponding varieties and quantities of fire-fighting equipment and leakage emergency treatment equipment. Clear warning signs should be set up in the storage area to prohibit the entry of unrelated personnel.
Stability
1). CHEMICAL STABILITY: At room temperature and pressure, isobutanol is relatively stable chemically. However, under certain conditions, such as strong oxidizing agents, strong acids, strong bases, etc., chemical reactions will occur. For example, with concentrated sulfuric acid under heating conditions can occur dehydration reaction to generate isobutene; with acid esterification reaction to generate the corresponding ester compounds.
2). Thermal stability: within the normal storage and use temperature range, isobutanol has good thermal stability. However, when the temperature is too high, decomposition or polymerization reaction may occur, producing harmful gases or leading to product quality decline.
3). Photostability: It is relatively stable to light, but long-term exposure to strong light may trigger some photochemical reactions and affect its quality and performance. Therefore, direct sunlight should be avoided during storage.
4). Other stability: Isobutanol can form explosive mixtures in air, with an explosion limit of 1.7% - 10.9% (v/v), so attention should be paid to ventilation during storage and use to prevent the formation of explosive gas mixtures. At the same time, it may have a slow chemical reaction when it comes in contact with some metals such as aluminum and magnesium, so storage containers and conveying piping, etc. should be avoided with these metal materials.
