Application
1). Dodecanal is an important fragrance ingredient with a distinctive fatty aroma. When diluted, it exhibits scents reminiscent of violet, citrus, or floral notes.
2). As a long-chain fatty aldehyde, dodecanal serves as a key raw material for synthesising various chemicals.
3). In the agricultural sector, dodecanal is blended with decanal and limonene to form a plant-based mating disruptor, used to control pests such as the grey tea moth.
Storage
1). Store in a cool (temperature ≤25°C), dry, well-ventilated warehouse, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
2). Store in corrosion-resistant glass or metal containers; avoid using plastic containers to prevent the swelling effect of aldehydes on polymers.
3). Store separately from hazardous chemicals such as strong oxidisers, strong alkalis, and strong reducing agents, and keep away from fire sources and flammable materials.
Stability
Dodecanal is relatively stable at room temperature, but it slowly oxidises to form dodecanoic acid when exposed to air for long periods, especially under conditions of light and high temperatures (above 50°C), which accelerate the reaction. Its flash point is 101°C (closed cup), and it is classified as a flammable liquid. It should be kept away from open flames and static sparks.
