Application
1). Flavor enhancers: used to enhance cream or caramel flavor in baked goods, confectionery.
2). Solvent: to extract natural pigments (e.g. chlorophyll, carotenoids) or flavor components.
3). Drug solvents: used as solvents for oral liquids and capsules to enhance the solubility of fat-soluble drugs.
4). Transdermal absorbers: to promote skin penetration of topical ointments (e.g. anti-inflammatory ointments).
5). Coatings/Inks: used in water-based coatings and printing inks to reduce VOC emissions.
6). Electronic cleaning: cleaning circuit boards, semiconductor devices without residue and without corrosion of metals.
7). Plasticizer: Improve the flexibility of biodegradable plastics (e.g. PLA).
8). Reaction medium: as a reaction solvent in polyester synthesis.
9). Mild solvent: used in makeup remover, nail polish remover, low skin irritation.
10). Fragrance fixing agent: to prolong the persistence of fragrance in perfumes and lotions.
Storage
1). Temperature: 15-25°C is recommended for long term storage, avoid high temperatures (>40°C) leading to hydrolysis or oxidation.
2). Humidity: relative humidity <60%, prevent moisture absorption (ethyl lactate is hygroscopic).
3). Protection from light: store in brown glass bottles or light-proof containers to avoid UV-induced decomposition.
4). Material: glass, stainless steel or high density polyethylene (HDPE), avoid contact with PVC (may dissolve).
5). Sealing: tightly sealed to prevent evaporation or moisture absorption, nitrogen filling is recommended for protection after opening.
6). Stable for 2-3 years under unopened conditions, recommended to be used within 12 months after opening.
Stability
1). Easily hydrolyzed in strong acids (pH < 2) or bases (pH > 12) to lactic acid and ethanol.
2). Stable under neutral conditions, it is recommended to control pH 6-8.
3). Decomposition temperature: decomposes at > 200°C, releasing irritating gases (e.g. acetic acid, acrolein).
4). Operating recommendations: distillation under reduced pressure (boiling point can be reduced to approx. 100°C@50 mmHg).
5). Risk of oxidation: prolonged exposure to air may slowly oxidize to form lactic acid or acetic acid derivatives.
6). Antioxidant measures: add 0.01-0.1% BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene) or vitamin E.
7). Avoid exposure to: strong oxidizing agents (e.g., persulfates, potassium permanganate), strong acids/bases, reactive metal powders (e.g., magnesium, aluminum).
