Application
1). Coatings and resins: dissolve nitrocellulose, oils and resins for fast-drying formulations of coatings, inks and adhesives (boiling point 54.3°C, fast evaporation).
2). Extractant: extract natural products (such as plant essential oils) or separate chemical substances.
3). Food flavoring: to provide raspberry, rum-like aroma for confectionery, beverages and baked goods (subject to food grade standards).
4). Tobacco processing: used as tobacco flavoring agent to improve smoke flavor.
5). Ester exchange reaction: synthesize other esters (e.g. drug or pesticide intermediates).
6). Formylation reagent: used to introduce formyl groups in the pharmaceutical industry.
7). Fumigant: once used for insecticidal fumigation of grain silos or ship cabins (now mostly replaced due to high flammability).
8). Cryogenic refrigerant: mixed with dry ice as a temporary laboratory refrigerant.
Storage
1). Sealed and protected from light: use glass or corrosion-resistant metal containers, avoid plastics (may dissolve).
2). Cool and ventilated: store at ≤25°C (ideally 4-15°C), away from heat and open flames (flash point -20°C, highly flammable).
3). Humidity control: relative humidity <50%, prevent hydrolysis.
4). Fire and explosion-proof: the storage area needs to be equipped with explosion-proof electrical equipment and fire extinguishing equipment (carbon dioxide or dry powder fire extinguishers are recommended).
5). Anti-static: grounded containers to reduce the risk of static electricity accumulation.
6). Personal Protection: Wear gas mask, chemical goggles and corrosion resistant gloves when operating.
Stability
1). Hydrolysis sensitivity: slow hydrolysis to formic acid and ethanol in water or humid air, accelerated by strong acids/bases.
2). Oxidation risk: long-term exposure to air may oxidize to formic acid or peroxides (periodic purity testing is required).
3). Thermal decomposition: decomposes to toxic gases such as ethylene and carbon monoxide at high temperatures (>100°C).
4). Stable for about 6-12 months when unopened, recommended to be used up within 3 months after opening and tightly sealed.
5). It is recommended to keep it filled with nitrogen to prolong the stability.
6). Avoid contact with: strong oxidizing agents (such as nitric acid), acids, alkalis and reducing agents (may react violently).
7). MATERIAL COMPATIBILITY: Safe for contact with glass, stainless steel, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE).
