Application
1). Orthodecanoic acid is an important raw material for the synthesis of esters, which are used in the preparation of lubricants, plasticizers and flavors (e.g., esters in fruit flavors).
2). As a raw material for metal soaps (e.g., sodium and calcium salts), it is used in greases, water repellents, or paint additives.
3). Longer carbon chains, suitable for the production of special surfactants (e.g. quaternary ammonium salts), used in industrial cleaning agents or emulsifiers.
4). Reacts with alkalis to produce soaps that can be used in soap or detergent formulations.
5). Used as additives to improve the flexibility and anti-aging properties of plastics.
6). Used as release agents or softeners in rubber processing.
7). Used in the synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates (such as antibacterial or antifungal agents).
8). Small amounts are used in cosmetics to adjust texture or as emulsion stabilizers.
9). Used as organic synthesis reagent or standard in analytical chemistry for chromatographic analysis or reaction study.
Storage
1). Temperature: cool place (20-25°C recommended), avoid high temperature (melting point about 31-33°C, solid at room temperature, need to be melted and used).
2). Humidity: dry environment, prevent moisture absorption caking or hydrolysis.
3). Avoid light: store in brown glass bottles or opaque containers to reduce the risk of photo-oxidation.
4). Use inert material containers (e.g. glass, stainless steel or corrosion-resistant plastic), tightly sealed to prevent oxidation or volatilization.
5). Long-term storage can be protected by filling with nitrogen to retard oxidative deterioration.
6). Keep away from ignition sources (flammable solids) and store in well-ventilated areas.
7). Separate from strong oxidizing agents (such as nitrates, peroxides), strong alkali, to avoid violent reaction.
Stability
1). Normal temperature: chemically stable, but may slowly oxidize (yellow color) when exposed to air for a long time.
2). High temperature: >250°C may decompose, generating carbon dioxide and olefinic products.
3). pH effect: stable under acidic conditions, reacts with strong bases to form decanoates (saponification reaction).
4). Sensitive to oxidation, it is recommended to add antioxidants (e.g. vitamin E or BHT) to extend shelf life.
5). Avoid contact with strong oxidizing agents such as ozone and potassium permanganate.
6). White waxy solid at room temperature, melts to transparent liquid when heated, re-solidifies after cooling, stable physical properties.
7). Almost insoluble in water (about 0.02 g/L, 20°C), slightly soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether.
