Application
1). Chemical intermediates: as an important raw material for organic synthesis, it is used in the preparation of succinic anhydride, 1,4-butanediol, polyester resin, polyurethane, etc., which are further used in the production of plastics, fibers and paints.
2). Food industry: as a food additive (EU No. E363), it can be used as an acidifier to adjust the flavor of beverages, confectionery, seasonings, etc., and also has a certain preservative effect to prolong the shelf life of food; it can also be used to adjust the pH in beer brewing.
3). Pharmaceutical field: as drug synthesis intermediates, used in the preparation of sedatives, contraceptives, antibiotics, etc.; in pharmaceutical preparations can be used as pH regulator or buffer, stabilizing the acidity of the drug solution.
4). Agriculture and feed: as a plant growth regulator, it can promote crop photosynthesis and nutrient absorption; as a feed additive, it can improve the palatability of animal feed and enhance feed utilization.
5). Other fields: used as complexing agent in electroplating to enhance the uniformity of plating layer; used as pH regulating ingredient in cosmetics to maintain product stability.
Storage
1). Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse, avoiding high temperature (recommended storage temperature should not exceed 30℃) and direct sunlight.
2). Keep the container sealed to prevent moisture absorption (Succinic acid is hygroscopic and may clump or affect purity after deliquescence).
3). Store separately from strong oxidizing agents (e.g., potassium permanganate, hydrogen peroxide), strong bases (e.g., sodium hydroxide), etc., and avoid mixing (to prevent neutralization or oxidation reactions).
4). The storage area needs to be equipped with suitable emergency treatment equipment for leakage (e.g. dry sand, adsorbent cotton).
Stability
1). It is chemically stable at room temperature and pressure and is not easy to decompose spontaneously.
2). When heated to a higher temperature (over 230℃), it may decompose and release carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and other gases.
3). Carboxylic acid property: can react with alkali to form succinate, esterify with alcohol (e.g. with ethanol to form diethyl succinate), may be oxidized in contact with strong oxidizing agents.
4). Physical stability: easy to absorb moisture when exposed to humid air, long-term storage may lead to caking due to moisture absorption, but the chemical properties remain unchanged.
