Application
1). Fragrance synthesis: n-hexanol has a mild floral and fruity odor and is often used as a fragrance in food, beverage, cosmetic and perfume industries. It can add fresh and natural aroma to the products, such as in the strawberry, apple and other fruit flavors, n-hexanol can enhance the realism and natural sense of flavor.
2). Organic synthesis raw materials: in the field of organic synthesis, hexanol is an important intermediate. It can be used to synthesize hexanoic acid, hexanoic acid ester, hexanal and many other organic compounds. These compounds are widely used in medicine, pesticides, plastics and other industries. For example, ethyl hexanoate is an important chemical raw material and spice, which can be produced by oxidizing hexanol to hexanoic acid and then esterifying it with ethanol.
3). Solvent: hexanol is miscible with many organic solvents and has good solubility for many organic compounds, so it is often used as a solvent for coatings, inks, resins and so on. It can regulate the drying speed and leveling of coatings, so that the coatings can be evenly spread during construction and form smooth paint film.
4). Surfactant raw material: n-hexanol can be used to produce surfactants, such as fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether. These surfactants have good emulsifying, dispersing and solubilizing properties, and are widely used in detergents, cosmetics, textiles and other industries to improve the cleaning effect and stability of products.
5). Other applications: in the electronic industry, hexanol can be used to clean electronic components and remove oil and impurities on the surface; in the field of agriculture, it can be used as a solvent or an additive for certain pesticides to improve the stability and efficacy of pesticides.
Storage
1). Packing: Usually packaged in galvanized iron drums or stainless steel containers, with a capacity of 150kg or 200kg per drum, or in tanker trucks for mass transportation. The container must be well sealed to prevent hexanol leakage and volatilization.
2). Environment: It should be stored in a cool and ventilated warehouse, away from fire and heat source, and the temperature of the warehouse should not exceed 30℃. The relative humidity of the storage room should be kept below 75% to avoid the humid environment which may cause the product quality to drop. At the same time, avoid direct sunlight to prevent hexanol from photochemical reaction.
3). Precautions: n-Hexanol should be stored separately from oxidizers, acids, bases, etc., and should never be mixed. The storage area should be equipped with appropriate varieties and quantities of fire-fighting equipment and leakage emergency treatment equipment. Handling should be lightly loaded and unloaded to prevent damage to packaging and containers to avoid hexanol leakage causing safety accidents and environmental pollution.
Stability
1). Chemical stability: at room temperature and pressure, hexanol is relatively stable. However, under certain conditions, such as encountering strong oxidants, it will be oxidized to hexanoic acid; esterification reaction with acid to generate hexanoic acid ester. Under the conditions of high temperature, strong acid or strong base, hexanol may undergo dehydration reaction to form hexene.
2). Thermal stability: hexanol has good thermal stability within the normal storage and use temperature range. However, when the temperature is too high, decomposition reactions may occur and harmful gases may be generated. When heating or distilling hexanol, it is necessary to strictly control the temperature, generally not exceeding its boiling point (about 157°C), in order to avoid exceeding its thermal stability range.
3). Light stability: hexanol is generally stable to light, and prolonged exposure to light may trigger some photochemical reactions, leading to a decrease in its quality and the phenomenon of discoloration or deterioration. Therefore, it should be stored in brown containers or in an environment protected from light as much as possible.
4). Other aspects: the vapor of n-hexanol and air can form explosive mixtures with an explosion limit of 1.2% - 7.7% (v/v). During storage and use, pay attention to ventilation to prevent the formation of explosive gas mixtures. At the same time, n-hexanol has a certain degree of irritation, eyes, nose, throat and skin irritation, storage and use should take appropriate protective measures, such as wearing protective glasses, gloves and so on.
