Application
1). Key raw material for the synthesis of dodecanol (lauryl alcohol), prepared by catalytic hydrogenation and used in surfactants (e.g. sulfonates, ethers).
2). Production of emulsifiers, wetting agents , used in detergents, cosmetic formulations (e.g., shampoos, body washes).
3). React with ethylene oxide to produce polyethylene glycol laurate (PEG ester), which is used in industrial cleaning agents and textile auxiliaries.
4). Used as biodiesel blending component or additive to improve low temperature fluidity.
5). Preparation of environmentally friendly lubricant base oils (e.g. metal working fluids, rust preventive oils).
6). Flavor and fragrance industry: solvent or styling agent carrier (not the main flavor component).
7). Laboratory reagents: chromatographic analysis standards or organic synthetic solvents.
8). Plastic processing aids: internal lubricant or mold release agent auxiliary components.
Storage
1). Store in a dry, cool, ventilated room away from sources of ignition/heat.
2). Recommended containers: stainless steel, glass or corrosion resistant plastics (e.g. HDPE).
3). Store separately from strong oxidizers (e.g. peroxides, nitrates), strong acids and strong bases to avoid reaction.
4). Protect with nitrogen to reduce the risk of oxidation.
5). Storage temperature: -20°C to 40°C (long-term higher than 40°C may accelerate decomposition).
Stability
1). Not easy to decompose and no risk of self-polymerization when stored in a closed container at room temperature and protected from light.
2). Hydrolysis: Slowly hydrolyzed in contact with water or moisture to produce lauric acid and methanol (need to keep the environment dry).
3). Oxidation: Prolonged exposure to air may oxidize to produce acidic impurities (nitrogen protection is recommended).
4). Thermal stability: ≤150°C can be tolerated for a short period of time; over 200°C obvious decomposition, release of irritating gases.
