Application
1). As a medium-boiling solvent, n-pentyl acetate can dissolve cellulose, resin, rubber and other polymer materials, and is commonly used in coatings, inks, adhesives and nitro spray paints to improve film-forming properties and regulate drying speed. In artificial leather processing, textile printing and dyeing and film manufacturing, it can be used as a solvent or diluent to optimize the process. In addition, its low toxicity makes it suitable for metal surface cleaning to help remove oil and oxidation.
2). Naturally occurring in fruits such as bananas and pears, n-pentyl acetate has a strong fruity flavor and is widely used in food additives (e.g., beverages, candies) and cosmetics (e.g., perfumes, nail polish) to provide a natural fruit flavor.
3). In the pharmaceutical field, n-pentyl acetate is an important solvent in the penicillin extraction process for separating the antibiotic from the fermentation broth. In organic synthesis, it is used as a reaction medium or intermediate in the preparation of esters, fragrances and fine chemicals.
4). The compound is also used in gunpowder manufacture (to regulate combustion properties), photographic film developer and metal extraction (e.g., separation of precious metals such as platinum and palladium).
Storage
1). It should be stored in a cool and ventilated warehouse, and the temperature should not exceed 37℃. Keep it away from fire and heat source, and store it separately from oxidizing agent, acid and alkali to avoid mixing and triggering reaction.
2). Containers should be sealed to prevent volatilization. It is recommended to use galvanized iron drums or glass containers, avoid using copper containers as trace amounts of acetic acid may corrode copper. The storage area should be equipped with explosion-proof lighting and ventilation facilities, and the use of mechanical equipment that is prone to generating sparks is prohibited.
3). Managed as flammable liquid, the storage area should be marked with fire prevention signs and equipped with emergency handling equipment such as sand and foam fire extinguishers. It should be loaded and unloaded lightly to prevent the container from breaking.
Stability
1). Pentyl acetate is chemically stable at room temperature, but high temperatures (e.g., above 470°C) or exposure to light may lead to decomposition and the formation of products such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and 1 - pentene.
2). Its vapor and air can form explosive mixtures (explosion limit 1.1% -7.5%), in the case of open flames, high heat is easy to cause combustion and explosion.
3). Vapor is heavier than air, can be diffused to a distance at a lower place, may be ignited when the fire source.
