Application
1). Flavor and Fragrance Industry
Flavoring for daily chemical products: used in perfumes, skin care products, detergents to provide floral and fruity notes.
Food additives: as edible flavors (e.g. candy, beverage, baked goods).
2). Organic synthesis intermediates
Pharmaceutical synthesis: used in the preparation of local anesthetics (such as benzocaine), fungicides and other drugs.
Pesticide production: intermediates for synthesizing insecticides or herbicides.
3). Industrial solvent
Dissolve resin, nitrocellulose and some polymer materials, used in coatings, inks and other fields.
4). Other uses
Laboratory reagent: standard for esterification reaction research or gas chromatography analysis.
Insect repellent: It has repellent effect on some insects (such as fruit flies).
Storage
1). Container and sealing
Use glass bottles, stainless steel or ester solvent resistant plastic containers (e.g. HDPE), and seal strictly to prevent moisture absorption or volatilization.
2). Environmental Requirements
Temperature: It is recommended to store at 15-25°C, avoid high temperature (>40°C) which may lead to decomposition or breakage of ester bond.
Humidity: Relative humidity ≤ 60% to prevent hydrolysis to benzoic acid and methanol.
Protection from light: Store in a cool place protected from light, UV rays may accelerate oxidation or deterioration.
3). Safety measures
Keep away from fire, strong oxidizing agents (e.g. nitrates, peroxides) and strong acids/alkalis, and maintain ventilation.
Stability
1). Chemical Stability
Hydrolysis: easily hydrolyzed under acidic/alkaline conditions (need to be stored in neutral environment), high temperature and high humidity accelerate the reaction.
Oxidation: may slowly oxidize when exposed to air for a long period of time, can be stored in nitrogen or add antioxidant (e.g. TBHQ).
2). Thermal stability
Boiling point is high (about 199-202°C), short-term heat resistance is good, but long-term high temperature may cause decomposition or polymerization.
3). Light Stability
Sensitive to ultraviolet light, keeping it away from light can prolong the shelf life (usually 1-2 years, depending on the storage conditions).
