Application
1). Edible Flavor: Ethyl Decanoate has a fruity and slightly alcoholic aroma (similar to brandy or coconut), and is widely used as a flavor enhancer in confectionery, beverages, dairy products (e.g., cheese, cream), and baked goods.
2). Liquor flavoring: used to formulate rum, brandy and other liquors to enhance their flavor levels.
3). Fragrance base: Because of its mild and long-lasting aroma, it is commonly used as a flavoring ingredient in high-end perfumes, moisturizers, and hair conditioners.
4). Solvent/emollient: Used as a solvent in nail polish and make-up remover while providing a refreshing texture.
5). Organic Synthesis: as an intermediate in the synthesis of drugs (e.g. antibiotic carriers), surfactants or advanced ester derivatives.
6). Lubricants/Plasticizers: Used in synthetic lubricants or in plastics processing to improve material flexibility.
7). Drug carrier: used as an adjuvant for ointment and patch to help the drug penetrate the skin or mucous membrane.
Storage
1). Protected from light and sealed: stored in brown glass bottles or shaded containers to avoid UV-induced oxidation or decomposition.
2). Cool and dry: temperature is recommended to be controlled at 10-30℃, humidity below 60%, away from heat sources (flash point about 100-110℃).
3). Well ventilated: store in fire and explosion-proof area, avoid vapor accumulation.
4). Use glass, stainless steel or corrosion-resistant plastic (e.g. HDPE, PTFE) containers, avoid direct contact with active metals such as aluminum and copper.
5). Classified storage: store separately from strong acids, strong bases, oxidizing agents (e.g. persulfates, nitrates) to prevent violent reactions.
Stability
1). Easily hydrolyzed under acidic or alkaline conditions to produce decanoic acid and ethanol, avoid contact with acids and alkalis and long-term exposure to humid environments.
2). Stable at room temperature, but high temperature (>130 ℃) may cause decomposition or volatilization, long-term storage at high temperatures should be careful.
3). Longer carbon chain structure makes its antioxidant property better than short-chain esters, but it may still oxidize slowly when exposed to air for a long period of time, so it is recommended to keep it sealed with nitrogen or inert gas.
4). Good compatibility with most organic solvents (e.g. ethanol, ethyl acetate), but contact with strong oxidizing agents (e.g. ozone, concentrated nitric acid) or reducing substances (e.g. sodium metal) may cause dangerous reactions.
