Application
1). Flavors and Fragrances
Food Additives: Sweet and fruity flavors (similar to strawberry, cherry), widely used in confectionery, beverages, baked goods, food flavors, subject to FDA or EFSA standards. FDA or EFSA standards.
Daily Chemical Flavors: Used in perfumes, cosmetics, soaps and detergents to give a long-lasting aromatic odor.

Storage
1). Sealing and moisture-proof
Use glass or corrosion-resistant containers (e.g. stainless steel) to seal tightly and avoid contact with moisture (esters are easily hydrolyzed).
Nitrogen can be filled to isolate oxygen and desiccant (e.g. molecular sieve) can be placed during storage.
2). Environmental conditions
Temperature: Store in a cool place, recommended temperature 15-25℃, avoid high temperature (>40℃) leading to volatilization or decomposition.
Avoid light: Use brown bottles or place in a dark place to prevent light from triggering oxidation or polymerization reactions.
3). Isolation and Safety
Keep away from strong oxidizing agents (e.g. peroxides), strong acids/bases to prevent violent reactions.
Store in a well-ventilated area away from sources of ignition (flash point approx. >100°C, but fire precautions are still required).
Stability
1). Chemical Stability
Hydrolysis sensitivity: easily hydrolyzed to cinnamic acid and methanol under humid or alkaline/acidic conditions, environmental humidity and pH should be strictly controlled.
Risk of oxidization: may slowly oxidize when exposed to air for a long period of time, resulting in aldehyde impurities, nitrogen storage can slow down the process.
Thermal stability: decomposition or ester exchange reaction may occur under high temperature, resulting in yellow color or acid value increase.
2). Shelf life and testing
Shelf life is usually 1-2 years under ideal storage conditions, with periodic testing for acid value, odor, and appearance (turbidity, precipitation, or discoloration indicate deterioration).
Changes in purity can be monitored by gas chromatography (GC) or infrared spectroscopy (IR).
3). Safety Precautions
Toxicity: Low toxicity, but the hydrolyzed product methanol is toxic, avoid inhalation of vapors or skin contact, wear gloves and goggles during operation.
Disposal: Dispose according to the standard of chemical waste to prevent environmental pollution.
