Application
1). Edible flavors: Ethyl caprylate has a fruity aroma (similar to pineapple or pear) and is widely used as a flavor enhancer in beverages, confectionery, baked goods, etc.
2). Alcohol additives: used as a flavor regulating ingredient in white wine or fermented beverages.
3). Solvent/emollient: Used in skin care products, perfumes, nail polish, etc. to help dissolve other ingredients and provide a refreshing texture.
4). Organic synthesis: used as an intermediate in the preparation of drugs, surfactants or other ester derivatives.
5). Solvent: Used in paint, ink or resin processing to dissolve non-polar substances.
6). Drug carrier: as a solvent for excipients or drug delivery system.
Storage
1). Protected from light: store in brown glass bottles or shaded containers to avoid ultraviolet decomposition.
2). Cool and ventilated: temperature is recommended to be controlled at 15-25℃, away from heat sources (e.g. open fire, heating).
3). Dry environment: humidity below 60% to prevent moisture absorption and hydrolysis.
4). Use glass, stainless steel or corrosion-resistant plastic (e.g. HDPE) containers, avoid contact with active metals such as aluminum and copper.
5). Keep away from ignition source: because of its flammability (flash point about 60-80℃), it needs to be stored in fireproof area.
6). Store in isolation: store separately from strong acids, strong bases and oxidizers to prevent reactions.
Stability
1). Easily hydrolyzed under acidic or alkaline conditions to form octanoic acid and ethanol, need to avoid contact with acids and alkalis and long-term exposure to humid environments.
2). Stable at room temperature, but high temperature (>100℃) may accelerate decomposition or oxidation, avoid long-term storage at high temperature.
3). Saturated structure makes it not easy to oxidize, but may slowly oxidize when exposed to air for a long period of time, it is recommended to be stored in a sealed place filled with nitrogen in order to prolong the shelf life.
4). Avoid contact with strong oxidizing agents (such as peroxides), reducing agents or reactive metals to prevent violent reactions.
