Application
1). Food additives: as a refreshing flavor, it is widely used in chewing gums, candies, beverages and other foodstuffs to provide minty aroma and refreshing taste.
2). Used in toothpaste, mouthwash, shampoo, shower gel, etc., to give a cool feeling and fresh aroma.
3). Used as a fixative for perfume and aromatherapy products to extend the fragrance durability.
4). Topical pain reliever: as a soothing ingredient in ointments and gels to relieve muscle pain or skin irritation (e.g., refreshing oil, windex).
5). Skin care products: used in oil control, astringent products (such as toners, masks), to provide a cool skin feel.
6). Solvents & Plasticizers: Used as a high boiling point solvent for coatings or resin processing, or as an auxiliary ingredient in plastic plasticizers.
7). Tobacco industry: added to tobacco to improve flavor absorption and enhance the cooling sensation.
Storage
1). Use glass, stainless steel, or plastic containers resistant to ester solvents (e.g., HDPE), tightly sealed to prevent volatilization and hydrolysis.
2). Avoid using ordinary plastics (may be dissolved or permeated).
3). TEMPERATURE: Store cool (15-25°C recommended), avoid high temperatures (>30°C) leading to volatilization or accelerated hydrolysis.
4). Protection from light: store away from light (UV rays may trigger decomposition or oxidation), brown glass bottles are recommended.
5). Humidity: keep dry (relative humidity <50%), prevent moisture absorption leading to hydrolysis.
6). Fire protection: keep away from ignition sources (flash point approx. 93°C, flammable liquid), equipped with dry powder or carbon dioxide fire extinguishers.
7). Isolated storage: store separately from strong oxidizers and strong acids/alkalis to prevent chemical reactions.
Stability
1). Hydrolysis sensitivity: easily hydrolyzed under acidic or alkaline conditions to form menthol and acetic acid, need to be strictly protected from moisture and control the pH environment.
2). Oxidation risk: may slowly oxidize when exposed to air for a long period of time, it is recommended to protect it with nitrogen or add antioxidant (such as BHT).
3). Decomposition temperature: decomposition begins at >150°C, producing menthol, acetic acid and a small amount of volatile organic compounds.
4). Volatility: Boiling point is about 227°C, volatilization is slow at room temperature, but high temperature environment needs to strengthen the airtight.
5). Sensitive to ultraviolet rays, long-term exposure to light may cause discoloration (yellowish) or change in odor, need to be stored away from light.
6). Stable for 2-3 years under unopened conditions, after opening it is recommended to use it up within 1 year, check the odor, color and clarity regularly.
