Application
1). Lubricants and plasticizers: used as intermediates in the production of lubricant additives, plasticizers (such as nonanoate), to enhance the flexibility and corrosion resistance of materials.
2). Surfactant: Used in the synthesis of surfactants such as nonanoic acid soap, nonanoic acid amide, etc., which are applied in detergent, cosmetic and textile printing and dyeing industries to play the role of emulsification and decontamination.
3). Polymer raw materials: involved in the synthesis of polyester resin, polyamide and other polymer materials, improve the thermal stability and mechanical properties of polymers.
4). Pharmaceutical intermediates: used in the preparation of antibiotics, hormones and other drug intermediates, for example, as raw materials for the synthesis of antifungal drugs.
5). Food additives: In the food industry, nonanoic acid and its salts (e.g., sodium nonanoate) can be used as a preservative to inhibit microbial growth and extend the shelf life of food.
6). Fragrance synthesis: nonanoic acid has a special grease odor, which can be used to formulate edible spices and daily chemical flavors, or as a precursor for the synthesis of other aromatic compounds.
7). Cosmetic raw materials: added to skin care products, as a moisturizing component or auxiliary emulsifier to improve the skin feel of the product.
8). Agriculture: used in the preparation of pesticide emulsifiers or as an auxiliary ingredient in plant growth regulators.
9). Scientific research: used as laboratory reagent for organic synthesis reaction, fatty acid metabolism research and so on.
Storage
1). Container selection: Use sealed stainless steel drums, plastic drums or glass containers, avoid direct contact with metals (such as iron, copper) to prevent corrosion or catalytic oxidation.
2). Storage conditions: Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse, away from fire and heat sources, temperature is recommended to be controlled at 15-30℃, avoid direct sunlight.
3). Sealing: Ensure the container is sealed to prevent moisture and oxygen in the air from entering, which will lead to the increase of acid value or oxidized deterioration.
4). Segregated storage: Store separately from oxidizing agent, strong alkali and strong reducing agent, avoid mixed storage to trigger chemical reaction.
5). Fire and explosion prevention: Nonanoic acid is a combustible substance, the storage area needs to be equipped with fire fighting equipment (e.g. dry powder fire extinguisher, sand and soil), open fire and smoking are prohibited.
Stability
1). Stability at room temperature: It can be stored stably at room temperature, sealed and protected from light, avoid high temperature (e.g. over 60℃) or long-term exposure to air to prevent slow oxidation and generation of peroxide.
2). Effect of acidity and alkalinity: Nonanoic acid is organic acid, it reacts with strong alkali (e.g. sodium hydroxide) to form corresponding salt, avoid contact with alkaline substances; mixing with strong oxidizing agent (e.g. potassium permanganate) may cause violent reaction, it needs to be strictly isolated.
3). Thermal stability: melting point is about 11-12℃, boiling point is 254-255℃, it will decompose at high temperature (such as exceeding its boiling point) and produce irritating fumes, so it is necessary to control the temperature during operation.
4). Health hazards: nonanoic acid is irritating to skin and eyes, need to flush with plenty of water after contact; inhalation of high concentration of vapor may cause respiratory discomfort, operation should wear protective gloves, goggles and ventilation equipment.
5). Attention to environmental protection: If leakage occurs, it needs to be absorbed by inert materials (e.g. sand and soil), and avoid discharging into water or soil, as it may be toxic to aquatic organisms.
